We are off grid and power the house totally with solar panels and batteries so you have A/C and electricity all day when the sun is out and it is hot. But as my Uncle George would say,  "Don't be a dumb ass and run the A/C with doors open to try to cool the outdoors." You can keep the house very comfortable but you will not be able to keep it like a refrigerator. If you do keep it like a frig you will not have sufficient power in the night to keep the electricity on until morning. The A/Cs are on a timer that turns off automatically once the battery gets to a certain level. This is a safe guard to insure you have enough electricity in the battery to power the refrigerator, fan and a few lights. The 2 foot thick walls will keep the house very comfortable with

just fans if you close the doors and windows. until you are comfortable opening them in the cool evenings. It will stay nice all night with the ceiling fans or later at night it is always cooler even in the summer if you want to open the window and sleep with a fan in the window. I actually get cold. There are screens on all the windows too. If you are not an energy hog, you should have sufficient power to run the frig all night and fans. In emergencies we do have a gas generator that one of the guys can set up. But you will be charged for the gas. We also have an ice chest, candles, and oil lamps.

Breakfast Fixings

Enjoy a peaceful morning with freshly ground whole bean coffee, tea, cream, bread, butter, marmalade,  local honey, bacon, eggs, oatmeal, plain yogurt and fresh fruit. These are provided complimentary at arrival so you can prepare yourself a country breakfast and enjoy sunrise at Tzunuum.
Personalized grocery shopping  is available before your arrival if you would like specific items. stocked in the house ahead of time. I can most likely find just about anything you want in Merida and bring it to the ranch for you if I know ahead of time.  Check the rates page for prices and luxury extras.

     Security

During the day there are 2 ranch hands working at the barn or out in the pastures. They will rarely be by the house and will not bother you at all. But they are there should you need anything and inevitably you will need them for something. At night Jose or Pedro sleep in the Ranch Barracks by the Barn. They do not come out at night unless there is some sort of emergency. They really respect your privacy and are very honest, humble guys. If you need anything from in town just let them know and they will try to get it for you. Please tip them for their gas and time.

Transportation Options

I am still trying to tweak and find sources that offer quality service at affordable prices but that is challenging where we are. Here are the options I have at present

1. Rent or use your own car. If you rent - get a sports utility vehicle to handle the bad dirt road that goes out to the ranch. I drove a van out here for several years and made it just fine but in rainy season it can get pretty dicey.

2. Take the Maya Tren from Merida to Izamal. The train station is actually really close to my ranch. Once you arrive at the train station you give me a call and I will pick you up in my Ford Bronco and bring you to Rancho Tzunuum. There is a $10 charge  for pick up at the station and transport to the ranch.  It is another $10 to return you to the station.

3. Lawson's Yucatan  Tours can pick you up in Merida and bring you to the ranch for $190.

At this point my options are limited finding someone dependable with a nice enough car that will make it down the road to the ranch.
